I assume Michael Stipe has been a busy man since R.E.M. broke up, only because he never seemed the type to lounge about eating bon bons and watching Storage Wars marathons. His new venture, though, is sure to set off a ton of Internet whistles: At this year’s Miami Art Work, Stipe will join a panel of judges in assessing a live exhibition of animated GIFs, which everyone and their liberal arts cousin knows has been the next wave of Internet art for, oh, forever. Curated by Paddle8, it’s also sponsored by Tumblr, of course, and you can submit your own contributions until the end of November. That link also includes a selection of Stipe’s own GIFs, which range from visually intriguing to pointedly stupid (like most GIFs, I suppose). The Internet has so many things to offer. But what else would you expect from a guy who once sang about the end of radio?
