The prospect of collaboration has a unique ability to get music fans excited. Such was the case last year, when A$AP Rocky and producer AraabMuzik were spotted in the studio together, and then this, April when that led into an announcement for a collaborative album titled A$VPMUZIK. Especially coming off of AraabMuzik’s pretty thrilling Electronic Dream release from 2011, A$AP Rocky hopping on the producer’s work sounded pretty enticing, but in an interview with AraabMuzik that Pitchfork released today, it sounds like the meeting of the rhymes may not see the light of day. When asked about the status of his work with A$AP Rocky, AraabMuzik shakes his head and says, “I don’t know man. I don’t even think it’s coming out anymore.” The producer further explains, “I’m not gonna cheat the fans, I’m not gonna keep the fans anticipating anymore– it is what it is, you know what i’m saying? If it comes out it comes out.” That’s pretty vague as to what exactly is stalling the project, be it some kind of label issue or the trouble that comes when you’re trying to do any kind of work with a 23-year-old who really loves to smoke weed.
