There’s a ghostly quality to “Control” from LA pysch-pop act BOYO, that goes hand-in-hand with its underlying playfulness. When it came to putting together a video for the song, Robert Tilden and his collaborator leaned into that duality.
“I’d been making stuff with my friend Julien Kelly, who’s an insane photographer and videographer, since we started high school,” he says. “I told him I wanted to do this new BOYO thing, and then played him the song, which is supposed to be this ghostly lullaby. He had the idea that the character in the song is this ghost wandering around his old haunts. Then inevitably it became silly and weird and twisted because while we were editing we stayed up all night watching adult swim going a little nuts.”
“Control” is the title track from BOYO’s recent release on Danger Collective Records.
BOYO performs October 21 at The Bootleg and November 4 at The Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles.
