How much would you pay to have a sleepover with TLC’s Chilli or T-Boz?
If you answered less than $5,000, today is your lucky day.
TLC, the most successful girl group of all time, is using Kickstarter to fund their fifth and final record. The promise of another TLC album is, naturally, a dream come true. But why would a group that has sold over 65 million records worldwide need to fund their swan song via Kickstarter? The CrazySexyCool girls say they’ve chosen to go the crowd-funding route in order to create an album that’s “by the fans for the fans.”
In addition to dream TLC rewards (for $50 you get to learn all your fave TLC dance moves via digital dance school – a useless prize for those of us who committed them to memory back in the 90s), those who pledge over $5 can participate in polls that determine aspects of the album (for example, choosing which song ought to be remixed). Seeing as they were amongst the first groups to release a digital song via MP3.com (“I need that”) during promotion for their FanMail tour.
Speaking of tours, TLC will also be going on a major U.S. tour!
Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas had this to say to Time.
“We always say, like the movie, ‘TLC is M.T.B. [Meant To Be].’ We’re gonna be here forever. We want to create something so amazing with our fans through Kickstarter, so that there’s this new generation of fans. We have 8-year-olds who love our songs! It’s so crazy to me. I love it so much. We want every generation to know a little something about TLC.”
